Patrol Response to the Active Shooter
Module #1 (One Day / 8+ Hours)
This SVS course is designed to provide training in all aspects of responding to and rapidly resolving an active shooter event. Training is geared toward the unique needs of law enforcement personnel in this specific environment.
Topics to be covered include (many more topics covered cannot be listed due to the sensitive nature of the information and training);
- Historical overview of active shooter situations including school shootings
- Immediate deployment/rapid intervention tactics
- Barricade-hostage rescue concepts
- Force options and decision making
- Tactical first aid issues
- The initial response to a critical incident
- Situation and risk assessment
- Containment and isolation of an active shooter problem
- Intelligence-gathering procedures,
- Team dynamics and communication
- Contact and rescue team priorities and tactics
- Equipment selection and procedures
- Active Shooter vs. Barricade/Hostage Situation
- Improvised Explosive Devices
Patrol Response to the Active Shooter
Module #2 (Two Days / 16+ Hours)
This course covers all of the material of Module #1 but adds the addition of a full day of live fire / range training. The firearms training portion of the program is the most innovative and cutting edge training of its kind. The shooter will be exposed to situations and stressors that will inoculate them to the extreme shock and emotional duress that will occur should they be exposed to an active shooter event.
Patrol Response to the Active Shooter
Module #3 (Three Days / 24+ Hours)
This course covers all of the materials of Module’s #1 and #2 but adds the addition of a “curb medicine” / enhanced rescue & recovery team training block ( 4 hours). SVS also delivers an intense close quarter combat and close quarter battle training and techniques block (4 hours) which makes this module the most complete and intense block of instruction offered by SVS.
SVS Patrol Rifle End User Course
8 hours - approx. 500 rounds per man
- Introduction to the AR-15 / M-4 rifle.
- Mechanical operation of the AR-15 / M-4 rifle.
- Disassembly / reassembly.
- Fundamentals of shooting a rifle.
- Basic gun-handling skills.
- Loading / unloading the AR-15 / M-4 rifle.
- Sling use and carry techniques.
- Malfunction clearance techniques.
- Presentation from the low ready.
- Delivering controlled pairs.
- Transition drills - pistol to rifle, rifle to pistol.
- Threat assessment and area scanning.
- Shooting positions - standing, kneeling and prone.
- Shooting from and around a vehicle.
- Shooting in an active shooter environment
- Preventive maintenance and cleaning.
- Awareness of exposure to toxic metals and solvents.
Hosting Requirements
To host a class, your law enforcement agency or military unit must provide an approved facility for the training – a vacant office building or school building with hallways and multiple rooms off the hallways (for the scenario based training). Before scheduling the course, you must complete a Site Survey that will be provided by our staff - describing the facility in which the training will be held. Registration for the class will begin upon facility approval.
